Overdraft services1 can help you tailor your account to your banking needs, in the event that you don't have enough funds in your account to cover your transactions.2

How overdraft services work1

  • What is an overdraft fee?
    An overdraft occurs when your available balance is not sufficient to cover a transaction. There is a $35 fee per overdraft up to 3 overdraft fees per day per account
  • How do overdrafts happen?
    An overdraft occurs when your available balance is not sufficient to cover a transaction. If you overdraw your available balance in your checking account1 by $10 or less, we won't charge you an overdraft fee. Find more about posting order in your account guide

    They're the options you have for how you want TD Bank to manage your checking account1 in the case of an overdraft, including Standard Overdraft Service, TD Debit Card AdvanceSM and Savings Overdraft Protection
  • What is Savings Overdraft protection?
    It covers transactions when funds are unavailable in your TD Checking account1 by transferring funds (if available) from a linked savings or money market account. If funds are transferred, a fee may apply
  • How can I avoid overdrafts?
    Keep track of your account activity and balance with the TD Mobile Banking App. You can also set up custom e-mail alerts at different balance levels like $500, $300 and $100 to help you monitor spending

What are my overdraft options?1

Our Standard Overdraft Service is included with most Checking accounts.1 You can add TD Debit Card Advance* and/or Savings Overdraft Protection. Choose the option that fits your banking needs.

Standard Overdraft Service1

I want TD to decline my debit card purchases at time of transaction if I do not have sufficient funds.

This service is included with your account.1 We may, at our discretion, authorize items such as recurring debit card transactions, ACH and checks into overdraft and decline one-time debit/ATM transactions.

TD Debit Card Advance*1

I want TD to pay my debit card purchases at time of transaction even if I have insufficient funds.

When you enroll in this service1, we may authorize one-time debit card and ATM transactions when funds are unavailable in your account. A fee may apply.

Coverage is in addition to Standard Overdraft Service.1

Savings Overdraft Protection1

I want to use the funds in my savings to cover my checking account transactions in overdraft situations.

Savings Overdraft Protection is an optional service that links to a TD savings or money market account to cover transactions up to your available balance.1 A fee may apply.

How to sign up for TD Debit Card Advance*1

Enrollment is required for TD Debit Card Advance.* Once your checking account is enrolled1, the service is available the next business day. You continue to use your debit card as usual, and in the event that you do not have enough funds, one-time debit card purchases and ATM transactions will be considered for payment.

If you don't enroll, all ATM and one-time debit card purchases will be declined at the time of transaction and no fees will be assessed.

Savings Overdraft Protection1

Savings Overdraft Protection is an optional protection.

  • Link your checking account1 to your TD Savings or Money Market to cover overdrafts
    If your checking account available balance is negative at the end of the day, money will be automatically transferred from the linked savings or money market account to your TD Checking account
  • Cover transactions up to your combined available balance
    The available balance in your TD Savings or Money Market Account must cover the overdraft amount, plus the transfer fee
  • Enroll for coverage
    Savings Overdraft Protection is optional and requires enrollment. There is no annual fee and no credit approval
  • $3 per day when a transfer is made
    Transfer charges apply when funds are transferred to the linked checking account. Standard overdraft fees apply for overdrawn payments beyond your joint available balance
